Let Go

Alcohol consumption spikes during the festive season. A drink by the beach, two sessions after work, an impromptu session last Friday and a wedding the Sunday just past. Oh, you already know about Timbre from a previous entry. A spike in activities of leisure inevitably corresponds to a hit to one’s resources, which in this case is money.

Rum was not great. Maybe if I had paired it with orange juice as I had originally mistakenly intended, the effect might have been better than having it with Coke. Or maybe not. Either way, I still love my rum and raisin ice-cream =) Whiskey was better but white wine certainly held the top spot among the variety consumed, a notch that’s even higher than red wine. I quote a friend, "All beer tastes the same", with a slight reservation that the comment probably only applied to canned ones, and concede that my preference is wine over beer.

Here, I move on to the topic of meet-ups and gatherings. The wedding just past was that of a primary school friend’s. It’s been more than thirteen years since we got to know each other. There we sat, a group of twenty-five year olds at a table with our primary school teacher, each having watched each other grown over the years. They tell me my facial features have not changed much over the years but I know some of my more-recent friends who would take a look at my Primary 6 photo and beg to differ. Such are the nuances found in friendships formed for times long. Not to forget there was yet another highlight which was the two glasses of white wine.

A meet-up with friends from days of conscription was rife in laughs albeit at the expense of another friend, with him having decided on Sushi Tei for lunch only to approach the restaurant and look at me with a question "Sushi Tei sells food?". He was referring to packaged Japanese tidbits found at the store in VivoCity but it was just plain funny the moment he said it, haha.

The night of Boxing Day I went over to a friend’s new place for the aforementioned impromptu drinking session which actually only consisted of one can of beer and one glass of whiskey on the rocks. Movies, drinks, chips and a comfortable couch all add up to make for a very good friends-time.

Christmas was spent in the company of two different groups of friends but carrying out one common activity: playing Magic: The Gathering TCG somewhere in the heart of town. It may not have been a celebratory sorts of activity or a Christmas-related thing to do but contentment and fun were all that mattered.

The end of the year approaches, Christmas just gone by. Sixpence None The Richer’s rendition of the carol It Came Upon The Midnight Clear rang strongly in my mind this season. I’m not sure why but hazard a guess I would say the melancholic arrangement of the tune. It soothes and that is simply enough. Ending off, here’s wishing you my reader, and I, many glad tidings waiting for us in the coming New Year of 2009 =)
